How does it work?
Dropped Object Protection
The DOPNET system features a hydraulically driven drum that keeps the net in “constant tension”. The drum is mounted between skid beams, allowing the entire net to follow the drilling tower when skidding both north-south and east-west. The drum and the attachment on the main beam are equipped with brake elements that will extend/tear under load. This reduces the impact force applied to the net and structural components. The brake elements are maintenance-free. The net is designed to catch and slow down a drill pipe dropped from the least favorable position of the Eagle crane. This reduces the risk of personal injury and damage to equipment and structures below, such as hydrocarbon-carrying pipes. Currently in use on Gullfaks C and early 2023 on Gullfaks B.
